Awards for Excellence 2011 Open to Entries
The 2011 Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management are open to applications.

The 8th annual Awards for Excellence are now open to applications.

Entries are welcome from local authorities, businesses, the voluntary and community sector and individuals who have been innovative and successful, and shown dedication in recycling and waste management.

This year there are ten awards categories:

§ High Street Recycling Champion.

§ Commercial Recycling Champion.

§ Waste Management Initiative in the Commercial and Public Sector.

§ Innovation in the Design of a Waste Management Facility.

§ Collection Crew of the Year.

§ The Best Community Recycling Initiative.

§ Recycling Business of the Year.

§ Civic Amenity Site of the Year.

§ The Best Local Authority Recycling Initiative.

§ Local Authority Recycling Champion.

Applications will be accepted until the closing date of 16 March 2011.

The awards ceremony will take place at The Savoy Hotel, London, on 12 May 2011.

Eveson Charitable Trust





Financial assistance is available for projects aimed at supporting the elderly, people with disabilities, children in need, hospitals, hospices, the homeless and medical research. The Trust will also support hospitals and hospices and medical research relating to any of the aforementioned groups.

The Trust makes grants to eligible organisations supporting residents of the following areas: Herefordshire, Worcestershire and the County of West Midlands (Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull and Walsall).

The Main Fund is responsive to requests for support across the broad range of our interests, which are: the cultural life of the UK, education and learning, the natural environment and enabling disadvantaged people to participate more fully in society.

Funding so widely creates a lot of competition. In 2008 they received almost 5,000 eligible applications to the Main Fund and made 267 grants totalling £17.2m.

Within the four areas of interest – the arts, education and learning, the environment and enabling disadvantaged people to participate fully in society – they will prioritise work that:

Addresses a significant gap in provision
Develops or strengthens good practice
Challenges convention or takes a risk in order to address a difficult issue
Tests out new ideas or practices
Takes an enterprising approach to achieving its aims
Sets out to influence policy or change behaviour more widely.

National Lottery


National Lottery Awards
The search has begun, to find the UK’s favourite Lottery-funded projects. Now in their eighth year, the National Lottery Awards recognise the difference that Lottery-funded projects, both big and small, make to people, places and communities across the UK. The awards celebrate the talent, hard work and dedication of the people involved in running them. There are seven categories in total, all of which reflect the different areas of Lottery funding. These categories are the Best Arts Project; Best Education Project; Best Environment Project; Best Health Project; Best Heritage Project; Best Sport Project; and Best Voluntary/Charity Project. Category winners will be presented with £2,000 in prize money to spend on their project. Entry into the Awards closes at 5pm on February 18th 2011.

We would encourage any Walsall organisation who has been the awarded a lottery grant to consider applying .

Funding for Youth Trips to Germany
UK school, FE Colleges and youth groups within the UK can apply for grants of up to £750 through the Instant Impact Project Fund to support taster trips and visits to Germany for young people. The scheme is aimed at schools and youth groups that have not previously visited the other country, there is a sustainability element to the link, at least 75% of the time during the visit is spent taking part in interactive and educational joint activity between young people from the UK and German partner institutions’ , the trip includes young people who would otherwise not have the chance to take part., the main beneficiaries are young people and the trip includes a strong new element or significant development of the young people's contact with the other country.

Applications can be submitted at any time, however applications must be submitted at least 4 weeks in advance of the trip.

Grants To Support Young Musicians
The Awards for Young Musicians is a programme that supports young people aged between 5 and 17 that are in financial need or have exceptional musical talent and potential. Grants of between £200 and £2,000 are available to support major costs of the musician's training such as:

· lessons

· buying instruments

· travel

· specialists courses.

Grants will be made directly to institutions, music organisations music teachers and other suppliers, not to students or their families.

The deadline for applications is the 25th March 2011.

Bosch Technology Horizons Award 2011
The Bosch Technology Horizons Award 2011 is now open to entries.

The Awards is an essay-writing competition open to 14 to 24 year olds in the UK. The are two entry categories for the awards, these are:

· The 14 to 18 age group category. Entrants will need to write an essay on 'how will engineering and technology change the way we live in the next 125 years?. There will be a £700 prize, an opportunity to undertake two weeks work experience, an invitation for two to attend the Royal Academy of Engineering Awards dinner in June 2011, and featuring in publicity surrounding the award for the winner. The second prize will be £300 and £150 for five entrants that are highly commended.

· The 19 to 24 age group category. Entrants will need to write an essay on 'what role can engineers play to ensure a greener world in the next 125 years?. The first prize for this category will be £1,000 and the opportunity to undertake six months work experience, an invitation for two to attend the Royal Academy of Engineering Awards dinner, and featuring in publicity surrounding the award. The second prize will be £500, and five highly commended entrants will receive £250.

Everyone who enters the competition will receive a personalised certificate. Every teacher submitting 15 or more of their students essays in the 14 to 18 age group will receive a handy Bosch Xeo cordless universal cutter. The two schools that submit the highest number of essays will each receive a hamper of Bosch products worth £500 and the winning school will feature in the publicity surrounding the event. The deadline for submitting entries is the 18th March 2011.

EAGA Charitable Trust Grant Programme
The EAGA Charitable Trust is a grant–giving trust that supports projects and research into the causes of fuel poverty and the promotion of energy efficiency the needs and preferences of vulnerable consumers. There is no minimum or maximum grant level that organisations can apply for and most grants last between two and three years.

Previous projects funded include the development of a simple easy to use tool to help social housing providers in England and Wales identify homes that are energy inefficient and set targets for their improvement to ensure all homes are capable of delivering affordable energy; and the development of a methodology for predicting the level of fuel poverty in small areas.

The Trustees meet three times a year to consider applications. The next application deadline is the 29th April 2011.

Barclays Community Sports Award
Barclays Spaces for Sports has announced the launch of its new Community Sports Award. The Award is a new award to recognise the outstanding achievements of individuals and groups that use sport to benefit communities across the UK. Each month, the winner of the award will receive £1,000 for their group or organisation, a limited edition trophy and will be entered into the end of season award to win a further £5,000. Nominations can be made for any individual, group of individuals or not-for-profit organisation.

Funding To Support Independent Domestic Violence Advisers
The Home Office has announced £3.3 million funding a year, for the next four years, to support frontline services for victims of domestic violence. Applications are now being invited for funding for independent violence adviser (IDVA) and MARAV coordinator/administrator services for the four year period, from existing voluntary and community sector organisations and other organisations which employ IDVAS or MARAC coordinator/administrators with England and Wales. All bidding organisations should have expertise in working with victims of domestic violence which will include victims of forced marriage, honour-based violence and female genital mutilation; female and/or male victims. Grants of up to £20,000 are available for IDVA posts, and a maximum of £15,000 for MARAC coordinator post. Funding is available towards running costs such as; salary, training and expenses costs. The deadline for applications is the 11th February 2011.

Rugby Football Foundation
The Rugby Football Foundation welcomes applications from all clubs at levels 5 and below in the English Clubs Rugby Championship. The foundations seeks to invest in community rugby facilities, enabling them to finance capital projects which will improve facilities that contribute to the recruitment and retention of community rugby players. There are two different funding streams. These are the “ Ground Match grant scheme” which provides grants of between £1,500 and £5,000 and the “Interest Free Loan Schemes”, with provides loans up to £100,000. The Big Tree Plant Fund
The Forestry Commission has announced that the Big Tree Plant Funding Scheme is now open for application.

The Big Tree Plant funding is for community and civic groups, or other non-profit organisations to establish community-led tree planting projects in areas that would benefit most. The trees must be planted in streets or in green places that are open to all to visit or where local people will benefit from them. Whoever owns the land must give permission and support to the project, and there must be a plan to care for trees after they are planted. Groups working in areas where more trees would help to improve residents’ quality of life are strongly encouraged to apply for the funding.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on the 15th March 2011.

The Percy Bilton Charity
The Percy Bilton Charity seeks to support organisations assisting disadvantaged youth (under 25), people with disabilities and older people (aged 60 and over). The Charity offers grants of up to £500 through their small grants scheme towards furnishings and equipment for small projects, and £2,000 and over through their large grant scheme towards capital expenditure such as furniture and equipment; building/refurbishment projects. The charity will also provide urgent one off financial assistance with grants of up to £200 to individuals over 65 on low income; children or adults with a physical/learning disability or serious illness on low income or adults with severe and enduring mental health problem which prevents them from working. These grants can be used towards; laundry equipment; cooking appliances; heating appliances; essential furniture, beds & bedding or floor coverings; essential clothing and footwear. Applications can be made at any time.

The William and Jane Morris Fund

The William and Jane Morris Fund is open to applications from churches, chapels and other places of worship built before 1896. The Fund offers grants of up to £1,000 towards work concerned with the conservation of decorative features such as, stained glass windows, sculpture, furniture, internal monuments and tombs, and wall paintings. Grants towards major structural repairs and fabric maintenance may be considered under exceptional circumstances. The next deadline for applications is the 31st March 2011.

Woodward Charitable Trust
The Woodward Charitable Trust, which is one of the Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts, is inviting applications from UK registered charities working with or in the areas of:

· social and ethnic minority groups

· prisoners and ex-offenders

· homelessness

· violence and abuse

· arts outreach; disability

· the environment.

The fund offers grants of up to £5,000 through their small grants scheme and grants of over £5,000 through their large grants scheme. Every year, the Trust makes about 50 grants through its small grants programme and around 5 awards through its large grants programme.

Grants awarded in the past have included:

A grant to SHARP (Support Help and Advice for Relatives of Prisoners) to help fund a helpline and grants towards the running costs of a cyber café for disabled users.

The closing date for applications is the 31st May 2011. In addition, the Trust runs a Summer Playscheme Grants Programme. This is open to charities with an income not exceeding £100,000 a year.

The closing date for applications for Summer Playschemes is the 1st April 2011.

Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust
The Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust has announced that its grant making programme is open for applications. Within the UK, the Trust makes grants to both organisations and individuals for activities that relate to: peace and conflict resolution; promoting racial justice; power and responsibility; and quaker concerns. The Trust tends to fund work that is on a national level and there are no maximum grant limits although the Trust does stress that costings need to be realistic. Previously supported projects include: Asylum Aid, which assists people seeking refuge in the UK Asylum Aid received a grant of £203,170 from the Trust to support a project that enables women fleeing serious human rights violations to gain protection in the UK.; and the University of Liverpool received a grant of £75,000 from the Trust to undertake an audit of local democracy in Burnley and Harrogate . The next deadline for applications is 9 pm on the 4th April for the Ireland programme and the 18th April 2011 for the UK programmes.

Paul Hamlyn Foundation Social Justice Programme
The Paul Hamlyn Foundation is currently accepting applications under its Social Justice Open Grants Programme. Through the Social Justice Programme the foundations aims to help integrate marginalised individuals and communities, and seeks to support younger people up to the age of 30 who are at time of transition because of their circumstances such as; leaving care or leaving prison or settling into a new community, or changes to the cultural environment in which they live such as; established communities in refugee dispersal areas There is a two stage application process. First stage applications can be made at any time. Those that are successful will be invited to make a second stage application.

The Kelly Family Charitable Trust
The Kelly Family Charitable Trust is open to applications from registered charities whose activities involve all or most family members in initiatives that support and encourage the family to work as a cohesive unit in tackling problems that face one or more of its members. The fund also welcomes applications from sports and health-related charities whose activities comply with the above criteria. The Fund offers revenue and capital grants. Grants are of between £1,000 and £5,000, but higher grants may be considered. There are two annual deadlines these are the 1st March and the 1st September.

Healthy Hearts Grants
Heart Research UK is now inviting applications under its Healthy Heart Grants Scheme. Heart Research UK Healthy Heart Grants support innovative projects designed to promote heart health and to prevent or reduce the risks of heart disease in specific groups or communities. Grants of up to £10,000 are available to community groups, voluntary organisations and researchers who are spreading the healthy heart message.

The next closing date is the 28th February 2011.

Funding for Voluntary Groups Providing Support to Victim of Crime
The Government has announced that up to £9.8m per year, for three years, will be available in grant funding for voluntary sector groups providing specialist support to victims and witnesses.

The funding will include:

· A Rape support fund to provide rape crisis centres with stable, long-term funding.

· A Victim and Witness fund for organisations who offer front line support for victims and witnesses.

· A Homicide fund for organisations offering support to those who are bereaved through murder or manslaughter.
