July 2010 - 2 million pounds for Charitable Activities from CHK Charities

CHK Charities Limited originated from the wishes of Sir Cyril Kleinwort and his relatives to support charitable activities across the UK. CHK Charities Limited provides financial assistance to UK charities working in the trust's areas of interests.

These are:

Arts.
Conservation.
Environmental and animal welfare.
Crime.
Disability.
Education.
Employment.
Drug rehabilitation.
Homelessness.
Health.
Youth issues.
General medical research.
Research into blindness/deafness.
There are three funding strands:

One off Grants:
These grants can be awarded towards core costs or for a specific project e.g. a contribution towards a building/refurbishment project, purchase of specialist equipment or other similar capital expenditure, or assistance with running costs.
Conditionally Renewable Grants
These grants can be made for more than one year towards start-up costs, or for a specific item such as a salary, core costs or towards the costs of a particular project.
Large Grants (Over £25,000)
There large grants are approved as a result of a close relationships with charities by one or more of the trustees.

Latest Information:

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and will be reviewed approximately every two months by trustees.


Key Criteria:

Preference is given to national or West Midlands charities.


Restrictions:

Funding is not available to:

Unregistered charities.
Pre-school groups.
Out of school play schemes.
Religious activities.
Small and narrowly specialised activities.
Community centers.
Local authorities.
Umbrella or grant-making organisations.
Universities, colleges, grant maintained private or local education authority school, Parent Teachers Associations, (except schools for students with special needs).
Individuals or charities applying on behalf of individuals.
Professional associations and training of professionals.
Projects which are abroad.
Expeditions or overseas travel.
Political activities.
Community transport projects.
General counseling projects (except those in areas of considerable deprivation).

Application Procedure:

Interested applicants must first submit their own application which should be no longer than four A4 sides, and should include a half page summary. The application must include:

A brief summary of the organisation; who they are and what they do.
The applicant's status e.g. registered charity.
Confirmation that the organisation has a Child Protection Policy and that Criminal Record Bureau checks are taking place.
A clear summary of the project.
A job description if the request is for a salary.
An explanation of how the project will be monitored, evaluated and, how its results will be wide spread.
What funds have been raised for the project, and name any other sources of funding applied for?
Explanation of where on-going funding will be obtained when the Charity's grant has been used.
If revenue funding is needed please state the amount.
Emailed applications will not be accepted.

A letter acknowledging the application will be sent within two weeks of receipt.
