November 2nd 2010 - Compact awards celebrate working together


Worcestershire's inaugural Compact Awards ceremony.took place on November 2, at County Hall. 130 people attended the awards ceremony which celebrated excellence in joint working between the public sector and voluntary organisations in partnership. It highlighted many of the fantastic projects taking place across the county in local communities.

38 nominations were received, all of which were commended with projects between Worcestershire County Council and Roundabout, around re-use, and Bromsgrove District Council, Bromsgrove District Housing Trust and EPIC, offering community learning resources, highly commended.

The overall winner was the partnership between Wyre Forest District Council, Vestia Housing and the Friends of St George's Park in Kidderminster which made improvements to St Georges and other parks in the area.

Simon Geraghty, Worcestershire County Council's Cabinet Member for Planning, Economy and Performance, said: "These awards offer a great opportunity to highlight the invaluable work done between our public bodies and the voluntary sector. And we can really recognise the amount of time and effort put in by volunteers to make their local communities better places to live."
