SHAPING THE FUTURE – CONSULTATION ON THE HERITAGE LOTTERY FUND’S STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK 2013-2019
The Heritage Lottery Fund are delighted to announce the launch of their public consultation on the future of Lottery funding for heritage from 2013-2019. The consultation is open until 26 April 2011 and you can give them your views online at http://www.hlf.org.uk/consultation2011.
The Government’s announcement of an increase in HLF’s share of Lottery good causes income from 16.7% to 20% by 2012-2013, amounting to around £50 million extra money a year, was an extremely welcome boost for the UK’s heritage. From 2013 to 2019 HLF will have an annual awards budget of around £300 million.
At the same time, reductions in central Government and local authority spending mean there will be significantly less public investment in heritage across the UK during the next four years.
This consultation therefore comes at a time of continued turbulence and change for many of their customers and partners. Your views are important to HLF and will help them decide how they can best respond.
They have set out their proposals on a range of issues, based on analysis of the emerging funding environment for heritage in the next few years, research and evaluation of the impact of their funding, and discussions with many other organisations, partners and funders. This is your opportunity to tell them:
what they should continue doing;
what they may need to do differently;
and what new initiatives or measures could have the greatest impact.
Please register and respond at http://www.hlf.org.uk/consultation2011 by 26 April. HLF will report back on what you have told them later on this year and expect to publish their strategic framework for 2013-2019 in spring 2012.
They look forward to hearing from you.

Esmee Fairburn
The Main Fund is responsive to requests for support across the broad range of our interests, which are: the cultural life of the UK, education and learning, the natural environment and enabling disadvantaged people to participate more fully in society.
Funding so widely creates a lot of competition. In 2008 they received almost 5,000 eligible applications to the Main Fund and made 267 grants totalling £17.2m.
Within the four areas of interest – the arts, education and learning, the environment and enabling disadvantaged people to participate fully in society – they will prioritise work that:
Addresses a significant gap in provision
Develops or strengthens good practice
Challenges convention or takes a risk in order to address a difficult issue
Tests out new ideas or practices
Takes an enterprising approach to achieving its aims
Sets out to influence policy or change behaviour more widely.
They encourage applicants to use the online application process. If you cannot or do not wish to do so you may also download the checklist and application form (Word - 58k) and send by email or post.
If you can tick all the boxes in the Application checklist, the next step is to let them have a first stage application. This should consist of: First stage application form (Word - 58k)
