5 July 2010, at Worcester County Council Chamber
From 10:00 to 16:00
One of the WMRAF’s top priorities is to help rural communities become more resilient.
A question many rural communities may ask, is what if … happened? Who do we speak to, how do we help ourselves and others?
This FREE seminar begins the journey towards answering these questions:
The big picture: national, regional and local roles; and how they all fit together
There will be clear and useful information on what we can do to help ourselves and our families be prepared for and react to unexpected / extreme events
There will be explanations, lessons learnt and tips from some of the key organisations involved in incidents
An explanation about environmental policy, the anticipated risks
Awareness of the economic impact
Feedback from rural communities who have experienced flooding, their experiences, key tips and tools you can apply
And finally the opportunity to work through a scenario to see how you could plan a rescue and recovery plan, with possible contact details if you wish to take this forward
Flooding has been identified as a specific concern for some rural communities, and will be the focus of the community examples; however the principles can be applied to many extreme events.
There will also be an opportunity to network over a buffet lunch.
You will wish to attend if you are: WMRAF members, local authorities, parish & town council representatives, trade associations, National and regional agencies, LSPs, Community & Voluntary sector representatives, a resident or a business in a rural community…
Places are limited, and will be allocated on a first come first serve basis
