Oct 2009 - Worcestershire County Council Grants Round 4

Worcestershire County council are giving grants to support voluntary and
community sector organisations in Worcestershire whose activities contribute towards identified outcomes for the community.

Grants include:

• First Base Community Arts
• Celebrating Diversity Grants
• Supporting Community Based Activities for Older People

The closing date for receipt of applications is Friday, October 30th at 4pm


The County Council’s Voluntary and Community Sector grants run twice
a year in Spring and Autumn. To find out more please visit the website:

If your organisations activities do not meet the priorities of the grants in the current round please remember to check again in the next round as grants change each time.

Round 4 Grants
In round 4 the County Council are offering Community Grants for one year or one-off activity.:

• First Base Community Arts
Grants to help voluntary and community sector organisations to show how
the arts can have a positive impact by bringing communities together and for
communities to take an active and participatory role in the arts.
Previous examples of this grant are:
A playgroup used county council funding towards the creation of a ‘nature-art’
play area in the grounds of the local community centre.
A community based group were awarded funding to contribute to the costs of a
series of concerts for the community celebrating the 150th centenary of the birth
of A.E Houseman.

• Celebrating Diversity Grants
Grants to help voluntary and community sector organisations celebrate diversity
through raising knowledge and understanding and encouraging interaction e.g. a
celebration day in the community.
Previous examples of this grant are:
An organisation used county council funding to hold an open day to celebrate the
diversity of Deafness and British Sign Language showcasing the history and culture
of Deaf People.
An organisation used a county council grant to fund a one off community event
called ‘food around the world’. This event embraced a variety of different cultures in
the community through activities around food and also music.

• Supporting Community Based Activities for Older People
Grants to help voluntary and community sector organisations to provide
activities to help meet the needs of older people in the county.
Previous examples of this grant are:
A county council grant contributed to the funding of a community venture which
encourages social interaction via a café area, provision of a local shopping facility
and promotion of volunteering opportunities. Key benefits are: community
inclusion, innovation and sustainability.
A county council grant is being used to pay for a fitness instructor to provide
exercise sessions at a weekly social meeting place for older people (from Worcester
and surrounding districts) Key benefits are: reduced social isolation, use of local
facilities, intergenerational potential of venue.

The closing date for receipt of applications is Friday, October 30th at 4pm
Completed applications can either be delivered by hand to Main Reception at County Hall, or posted via recorded delivery in advance of the deadline to the address shown below:
